Despite the actions of the last few years and the launch of the El Born Centre Cultural in 2013, work at this important archaeological site has not stopped. Experts say that up to 60% of the site remains unexcavated, as was stated during the 1st International Symposium on the Archaeology of El Born, recently held in the city.

This is why, this summer, archaeologists will return to Born to try to expand the historical "photograph" of this landmark which, often, doesn’t go beyond the Barcelona of the 18th century, ravaged by the troops of Philip V.

However, it is known that, under the Plaça Comercial, there is the only Islamic necropolis of the city, identified during the excavations of 1991. The works located 32 houses and two necropolises, with 17 Muslim tombs and 15 late-Roman burials.

At the end of June, picks and shovels will be back in El Born, and will excavate in two places which are yet to be determined; the aim is to better understand the urban development and history of the La Ribera neighbourhood and, ultimately, of the city of Barcelona.
