Three routes to discover the rich cultural heritage of La Seu d'Urgell

The new website, www.laseumedieval.com, publicises points of historical, artistic and developmental interest in the city. 31.12.2015

With the Cathedral of Santa Maria at the forefront (the only Romanesque cathedral preserved in Catalonia), La Seu d'Urgell makes a claim for the historic and heritage potential of the medieval town and the modern city. And it does so with a new web site (medieval La Seu d'Urgell) and three major routes that publicise the historical, artistic and developmental points of interest in the city.

The project invites you to rediscover La Seu via technology and following the three axes marked on the routes:

  1. The historical centre: the Cathedral and the medieval heart of the city (Carrer Major, Carrer dels Canonges, the ancient city walls, etc.).
  2. The new town: visitors find out about the expansion of La Seu in the 19th and 20th centuries.
  3. Castellciutat: focuses on the fortifications and defensive heritage of the modern age which surround the city.

The itineraries feature QR codes to give further information and, on the website, visitors to La Seu will find podcasts, audio guides, maps, videos and textual information available in 5 languages.

The creation of the tourism and cultural project has been based on various studies, which have supplied information that was unknown until now; these new elements of the history of the city and its urban growth will be presented throughout 2016.
