Sant Pere de Galligants and Sant Daniel

The agreements and disagreements of two benedictine monasteries

With this new guided tour, the Museu d’Arqueologia de Catalunya and the Monastery of Sant Daniel invite you to explore the history behind Girona's two Benedictine monasteries: the Monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants and the Monastery of Sant Daniel. Organised according to the Rule of saint Benedict, one was for monks and the other for nuns. They are located just 700 metres from each other.

Each of the monasteries has its own characteristics but, as their histories and the personalities associated with them are explored, the bonds connecting them become clear.

Monastic Girona is a joint project by the Museu d’Arqueologia de Catalunya and the Monastery of Sant Daniel. This tour is but the first of a series of initiatives by the two institutions with the aim of further researching the historic and artistic heritage of Girona's two Benedictine monasteries, a way of life that has been maintained throughout the centuries, and of raising awareness about them.
