Guided tour of Miravet Castle

All year

Miravet Castle

Miravet Castle, a fortress perched on an imposing hill and surrounded by 25-metre-high walls that seem to grow out of the rock, has a commanding view of the Ebro River and the surrounding area. Thanks to this strategic location, the site has been occupied by humans since prehistoric times and the castle played an important role in a number of wars.

It is still possible today to see some of the structures of the fortress built by the Moors on which the Templar castle was erected immediately after the conquest of these lands by Ramon Berenguer IV. The castle was donated to the Order of the Temple, which turned it into the headquarters of the Templar province of Aragon and Catalonia. This was the period of Miravet’s greatest power and splendour, an era that came to an end with the most tragic episode in its history, a siege lasting over a year that preceded the abolition of the Order of the Temple.

This guided tour of the monument provides an opportunity to view the most iconic parts of the castle and to learn about Templar history and architecture.
