Sant Pere de Rodes Monument Complex
In 1798 the monks were allowed to leave Sant Pere de Rodes on one condition: they had to destroy the monastery to ensure it did not become a smugglers' den..
At that time, Cap de Creus abounded with vines and and at night the cape's coves were witness to sloops setting sail, laden with casks of wine. The smugglers coexisted alongside ne'er-do-wells and treasure hunters drawn by the legends of the riches secreted away by the monks.
This visit provides an opportunity to discover this clandestine past of Sant Pere de Rodes and Cap de Creus, and also to sample wines that speak to us of this land of smugglers and poachers.
