Barcelona 2025

"Knowing pasts, creating futures"

The city of Barcelona has been chosen to host the ICA's (International Council on Archives) International Congress, which will be held in October 2025. The International Council on Archives is the international organisation, created in 1948 under the auspices of UNESCO, the aim of which is to ensure efficient documentary administration and to preserve and share world archive heritage by means of archives and through the activities of archivists around the world. Every four years the ICA holds a world congress to bring professionals in the field together to discuss questions of interest and archival projects throughout the world.
The International Council on Archives Congress that will be held in Catalonia is a challenge and an opportunity to show the world the value Catalonia attaches to archives and documentary administration. It is an opportunity that extends beyond archivists and documentary administration to include closely related fields that will see the Congress as an opportunity for learning and for creating synergies amongst professionals working in the field of data management.
Debates will be held about the challenges facing professional archivists and documentary management under the motto of, "Knowing pasts, creating futures". It is expected that more than 2,000 archivists and others in closely related fields from around the world will attend the conference.
