The dissemination of rock art in Catalonia is carried out through three Rock Art Interpretation Centres (CIAR): the Roca dels Moros del Cogul CAIR, the Prades Mountains CIAR (Montblanc), and the Abrics de l’Ermita CIAR (Ulldecona). These facilities offer educational activities and guided tours and provide access to a total of six groups of rock paintings.
In addition to the sites managed by the CIAR , other notable groups inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List under the name Rock Art of the Mediterranean Basin on the Iberian Peninsula (ARAMPI) are also open to visitors. These include Roc del Rumbau (Peramola), the L’Albi rock paintings, the Cova del Tabac (Camarasa), the Cova dels Vilars (Os de Balaguer), Cabrafeixet (El Perelló), the paintings of Barranc de la Vilella (Tivissa), and those of Alfés.
Furthermore, although they are not included on the World Heritage List, other sites of interest can also be visited, such as the shelters of Capçanes, Cocó de la Gralla (El Perelló), Les Brucardes (Sant Fruitós de Bages), and the group of rock engravings at Mas de n’Olives (Ulldecona), all of which help broaden and diversify the understanding of the country’s rich rock art heritage.
Catalonia has 14 visitable groups of rock paintings. Why not discover them?
