Els Ulls de la Història: Roca de les Dones

The Roca dels Moros Rock Art Interpretation Centre in El Cogul brings a fresh new approach to the heritage of this remarkable rock art.

At the heart of this experience is an innovative and inclusive vision of prehistory – one that shines a light on the complexity of ancient societies and, in particular, the active role played by women, challenging traditional stereotypes. It also underlines the continuity and evolution of artistic expression across the millennia, reminding us that the human need to tell stories is as old as humanity itself. The exhibition revisits the earliest androcentric interpretations of rock art in light of new scientific evidence, while also highlighting the close relationship between human communities and their natural surroundings, presenting Roca dels Moros as a testament to human interaction with the landscape.

The rock art in El Cogul is of undeniable significance, making it a key reference site for Levantine rock art in Catalonia and one of the most distinctive examples along the Mediterranean arc.

Roca dels Moros in El Cogul was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998, as part of a group of 759 sites across six autonomous communities that together make up the Rock Art of the Mediterranean Basin on the Iberian Peninsula.
