The virtual reproduction of the pieces will allow exact copies to be made 26.01.2016

The groups of the Patum now have ‘life assurance’ in a digital form. From 2014, the organising committee of the Patum has carried out the three dimensional digitalisation of the imagery of the festival with the aim of being able to make exact copies, if required.

The digitalisation is being carried out through three-dimensional optical measurement, a non-invasive technique that uses white light to reproduce the pieces virtually.

Currently, the heads and hands of the old Giants, the àliga (eagle) and the head of the Guites (dragons) are already digitised; in a second phase, which is starting now, the head and hands of ‘new giants’ will be reproduced. These images, together with the fire, are the soul of the Patum festival and are subject to being damaged. Some of the pieces have hundreds of years of history and the Festival was declared a "Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity" by UNESCO in 2005.
