Head of Mediation at the Centre for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB)
Susana Arias (Lugo, 1973) has been in charge of the Mediation Department at the Centre for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) ever since it was opened in October 2019. As such, she leads a team that designs and coordinates its educational programme and promotes creative community projects that aim to open up the institution and explore new formats and audiences. With more than twenty years of experience in the culture and humanities field, she has been linked to the CCCB since 2010 in curating and coordinating programmes, from seasons of debates and seminars to educational and audiovisual creation projects, such as the collection of film essays entitled “A Vocabulary for the Future”. She has facilitated the design and management of programmes in collaboration with local and international institutions and collaborated with the programme for young artists entitled “Future Cultures”, among others. She was in charge of programming and management at the Institut d’Humanitats de Barcelona between 2014 and 2019, when she encouraged the incorporation of new voices, perspectives and audiences and promoted, among others, the Aula Oberta (Open Classroom) project, led by the philosopher Marina Garcès.
She holds a BA in Communication Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and a MA in Cultural Studies from Goldsmiths College, University of London. She has worked as an associate lecturer in the Department of Journalism at the UAB and as editor and publications manager at Herder Editorial.
