Food and wine tourism, two major attractions of Catalonia

Catalan gastronomy is part of the country's identity, an element that differentiates it and is of great interest to tourists 14.12.2015

The Generalitat of Catalonia wants to increase the numbers of tourists coming to the country who are attracted by gastronomy and wine tourism. That's why it is allocating a further two million euros - which will come from the Tourism Tax - to several actions whose aim is to increase tourism stimulated by culinary and wine tourism itineraries.

To do this, one of the most notable actions being promoted is the workshop which will bring together more than 150 international tourism operators which specialise in these sectors. This will take place next June. The idea is for restaurants, wineries and tourism companies to offer their  products to experts from the traditional European markets as well as new markets Catalonia is looking to open up, such as Asia and America.

While this is going on, there will be an exhibition dedicated to the chef at El Celler de Can Roca, Joan Roca, which will take place near the Palau Robert in Barcelona, which will then travel to different cities all over the country.

The website Turisme de Catalunya (Catalonia Tourism) also has a large section dedicated to Catalonia as the European Region of Gastronomy 2016.
