The Regional Archive of l’Urgell (ACUR) was created on 14 July 1982, through an agreement signed between the Department of Culture and the Tàrrega City Council. On 22 November 1986, its new headquarters were inaugurated, located in the old town of the city, and it was integrated into the Regional Archives Network of the Catalan Goverment (Generalitat de Catalunya). Since 1989, the Regional Council of Urgell has exercised management powers.

The ACUR preserves public and private collections from the region. The fundamental nucleus is the municipal collection of Tàrrega, but there are also others, among which the Pedrolo family’s patrimonial collection (13th-18th centuries), the collection of the J. Trepat agricultural machinery factory (20th century) and that of the Ateneu de Tàrrega are worth highlighting. And this is without forgetting the musical collections. Likewise, it also has an auxiliary library specializing in topics related to the history of Urgell, and a newspaper library with various titles of periodical publications from the region.
